2015 National Sports Collectors Convention

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE 2014 NATIONAL SPORTS COLLECTORS CONVENTION

I had one of THE BEST times at the 2014 Nationals Sports Collectors Convention. It only happens once a year at the end of July, beginning of August. I wanted to go when I first found out about it in March or April. I did go, and went 3 out of 5 days.

DAY ONE: We drove all the way down to Cleveland Ohio, but had to stop at a hotel for one night. When I walked in the convention center, I remember thinking,  Oh my gosh, this place is HUGE! I didn't even know where I should walk. I didn't meet any celebrities, but I did buy memorabilia, cards, and a bunch of other stuff. I spent about 6 FULL hours there and didn't get bored at all because there was a HUGE amount of stuff to look at and buy.

DAY TWO: I couldn't wait to get there the second day, because I was going to get my picture taken with Reggie Jackson. I spent a couple hours walking around, then I went to the autograph pavilion to meet Mr.October. First I got my picture taken with him and he was messing around with me and was a really nice and funny guy. They got the picture printed out and then I was in line to get an autograph from Reggie. I handed him a bat to sign and also asked him to inscribe it "To Frankie" on the bat and he did! I then asked him to sign the photo of him and I, he did and inscribed it "Mom, watch out for the hair" because he was messing around with my hair, and told my mom I wasn't a girl... My mom tried to brush my hair.... I also met Al Oliver who played for the Pirates a while back, and autographed a ball and inscribed it also which was really nice of him. I looked around some more, then It started to close down so we had to leave...

Don't let this trick you... It's MUCH bigger!!!

DAY THREE: The last day at the convention, and for everybody else, I got to meet Joe Torre! I did the usual, go look around, than I had my picture taken with Joe Torre. He was nice, but he didn't really smile. Than I went to the autograph pavilion and he signed a jersey, the photo, and a ball and inscribed it "Happy birthday 8/11" because It was my birthday a week and a half later. Then, I had a free ticket to meet and have my picture taken with Gary Bell, a pitcher for the Indians in the 60's. I had my picture taken with him, then he signed the photo, a ball, and a picture he had taken with my mom because she got a free autograph ticket from some random guy.

This was back in 2009. It's just an example of how big the convention really is. It also has a nice little ferris wheel in the middle!

It was an AWESOME experience, and I had the best time of my life! Everybody should experience this at least once in your lifetime if you are any kind of sports fan. I hope to go next year in Chicago!!!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
That was last year... And a post I made October... This is now...

Last year I went to the National Sports Collectors Convention and had an awesome time! This year, I'll be doing the same thing, except it'll be in Rosemont Chicago, and my parents grew up right near there. This year, only my mother will be taking me, since my dad is taking a whole 2 weeks off for Hawaii. Right after Chicago, I'll be going to Hawaii for 2 weeks with my whole family, which should be some fun... I've been trying to save up all my money, but last night was an exception for the Harper autograph. There was absolutely no way I could pass that deal up! I have some lego sets that I plan to sell, one that could get $700+, another that could get $750+, and another for $400, which is awesome considering I only payed a fraction of that price. I'm also trying to sell some cards to help pay for everything. This year I'll only be going 2 days, Thursday and Friday (I think... Friday for sure), but that should still be plenty of time to dig through cards, meet some people, and get some autographs! I'll also be going to a Yankees game on Saturday. Yes, the Yankees are in town that weekend, against the White Sox! How convenient?

The main reason I'm making this post, is because I was wondering if any other bloggers were going. Please let me know if you are!

The Walking Dead Season Finale

SPOILER ALERT

Almost the whole day yesterday, I was watching The Walking Dead, with the exception of a painting class I took with my whole family for my grandmothers 95th birthday. Anyways, the season finale of The Walking Dead, was probably the best episode of any season. There were so many things happening at once, it was so hard to pay attention to everything. First off, Nicholas shoots Glenn, and they get into this huge fight. I thought Glenn was going die at first. But he didn't. Aaron and Daryl find a place, with trucks full of (Zombies), not what they think it'll be! They get trapped in a car, and Daryl says he's going to get out of the car and give Aaron a chance to run away. They decide that they're both going to go, but right as they're going to get out, Morgan comes and saves them both. Gabriel is one of the most confusing characters, I honestly have no idea what kind of guy he is. I can't tell if he's religious, or not, and whether he want's to kill himself or not. Sasha has become the same way. In the end, Pete kills Reg, and I think that Diana is going to trust Rick more, and Rick will take over the leadership role. Morgan walks in just as Rick shoots Pete...

What are your thoughts on The Walking Dead? Also, the companion series of The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, is coming out in the Summer!

It's awesome to watch an episode with my sister. I didn't have to keep my thoughts to myself! Thank you for reading!

Newest Ebay Pickup - Bryce Harper Autograph

I did nothing exciting today, besides take a painting class with my whole family, which was a lot of fun. Otherwise, I just sat on the couch and watched The Walking Dead, and study for French and do my homework. I also sold $57 worth of cards, and made a few trades on the sports card forum. I had $56 to spend, so I decided to hunt ebay for a card to buy! I spent quite a bit of time searching, until I finally came across one card. It was a Bryce Harper autograph relic from 2012 Bowman Platinum, graded an 8.5/8 by BGS. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a Harper autograph for such a low price. Well, I quickly jumped on the card and bought it for about $10 more then my budget. I thought about saving up for a Bryant autograph, or buying a Billy Burns autograph. I didn't.

The autograph is a little streaky, but it's still Harper! Hopefully he can have a breakout 2015! Even though he's a jerk...

Graded an 8 autograph, but still... A Harper autograph for around $60?

Happy 95th Birthday Grandma!

Yesterday was both my sisters 26th birthday, and my grandmothers 95th birthday. I don't let anyone in my family read my blog, but I thought I would take the time to blog about this. My grandmother, Edna, is 95 years old, but she is as strong as a ox, can walk great, and can do almost everything! Not only can she do that, but she is an even more amazing person. She always watches movies with me, and she'll watch all the Yankees games with me, in fact, she loves watching the yankees games! She loves to shop, and could spend hours and hours looking, and buying random stuff. She is an absolutely amazing grandmother, and I'm blessed to have such a great grandmother. She's always positive, and never thinks negatively.

Most of my posts include cards, so why not include some cards?

I got this card for my birthday 2 years ago, when I started collecting cards. It's one of the many Derek Jeter rookie cards that I have in my collection!

Another Jeter rookie from 1992 Topps...

I bought this at a local card show that I go to every now and then.

Don Mattingly is one of my favorite players, and also one of my favorite managers. I got this card in a Topps set that I bought at my local hobby shop.

Back in November when I had my surgery, one of my friends fathers put together some cards for me, along with

My uncle used to collect cards, and every time he comes down to my house, he'll give me some cards! I've had this card for over a year now, and it's one of my favorites!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
I forgot to post this yesterday, but today is my brothers engagement party... It'll be a busy week!

A Trade With A Member On The Sports Card Forum

How did I get these cards?

At the Nationaal Sports Collectors Convention, I bought a box of 2012 Panini Prime Cuts. On our way out to go to the Indians and Rangers game, I decided to open it in the car. I remember opening it, and just seeing the booklet, and I was ecstatic! The booklet was a cut signature of Johnny Mize, with a piece of pants (Yes, they specified that the relics were game used pants on the checklist) spelling out "Big Cat." Mize was a Yankee for a few years, but he was remembered in St. Louis. A few months later, I traded that card at a card shop for a box of 2014 Panini Immaculate. Out of the box of Immaculate, I pulled a Jose Abreu materials prime autograph patch redemption!

About 2 weeks ago, I made a trade with a member on the Sports Card Forum. I traded my Jose Abreu prime patch autograph from 2014 Immaculate, to get 2 redemptions in return. Why? Jose Abreu signs everything, and his autographs have only been going down in price despite his amazing talent. Soon, you will be able to get an Abreu autograph for $15!

The main card in the deal, was this Julio Urias oversized purple ice autograph #ed /25, from 2014 Bowman Baseball! Urias is only 18, but has a ton of talent, and should be with the Dodgers in the next few years. Not this season, but Urias should help the Dodgers win another World Series title sometime in the next 5 years! Now, I wait for the card to come in...
The next card in the deal, was this Giancarlo Stanton Tribute Traditions autograph sepia parallel from 2014 Topps Tribute! This card was sort of an add on, but it's still an awesome card! Stanton is an amazing player, and he is still so young. Hopefully he can have another outstanding season with the Marlins!

It's amazing how things work out...

1st and 3rd

The Yankees infield has been looking very good. At least to me. Mark Teixeira has been on a diet, and has been swinging the bat pretty well. Jose Pirela, who is suffering a concussion, has been spectacular, and has some pretty incredible speed too. In his first Major League at bat, Jose Pirela hit a triple, and in spring training, he was doing spectacular. Until he crashed into the wall in his first start in center field. Well... Stephen Drew... Didi Gregorius has been spectacular with his glove, and has been hitting very well considering his past few years. Mark Teixeira was raving about Didi today. Chase Headley has also been amazing in spring training, and so has Alex Rodriguez. I'm very surprised by how well A-Rod is doing in spring training, and I'm super excited to see Headley play 3rd this year! I think the Yankees have a good chance this year, and I'm really liking what I'm seeing from both the fielders and the pitchers!

A Chase Headley autograph from 2012 Tier One #ed /299!

A Mark Teixeira autograph from... #ed /1295!

Some More Yankees Prospects

I have absolutely no idea who Dietrich Enns is... Anyways, it's from 2013 Onyx platinum edition, and it's signed in silver and #ed /175.

Gary Sanchez has been the top catcher for the Yankees for a few years now. Like most of the young Yankees, he hasn't proven himself ready for the big leagues, as he hasn't hit very well in spring training. This card is from 2011 In The Game, and even though the autograph looks on card, it isn't! I got this card through a trade about a year ago.

This Gary Sanchez autograph is from 2014 Bowman Inception, and I love the design of Inception. It's a mid-end product with some decent hits, but the design is why you would really buy the product!

Ian Clarkin is only 20 years old, and has already proven that he is an amazing pitcher, and that he could help the Yankees sometime in the next few years. This card is from 2013 Panini USA, and is #ed /99.
Never heard of this guy... It's a Yankee!

I bought this card off of ebay for about $10 a while back, and a few weeks later he got traded to the Diamondbacks... It's still a cool card, with a very cool inscription!

Three "Sterling" Yankees Prospects

As I said in my last post, I used to collect a lot of autographs of Yankees prospects. Some of them I overpaid for, others I got dirt cheap. Later, I'll be showing off some other Yankees cards, but for now, enjoy these cards!

Mark Montgomery has been a great pitcher in the Yankees system, even though he had a rough and short spring training. Now in AAA, hopefully Montgomery can make the club sometime in 2015!

Tyler Austin is only 23, and has proven that he can play multiple positions, and his hitting will only prove. He has had a rough spring training, but he still has a lot of time to prove himself!

I picked this up for under $5, so I'm not complaining!

The last autograph in this post, is of Aaron Judge. Judge has had an outstanding spring training, hitting a game tying 3 run home run in the Yankees first spring training game. Last year, he averaged a .308 average in 3 different leagues. He's only 22, and has a shot at making the majors this year! I'm super excited to see Aaron Judge in the future!

A Few Eric Jagielo Autographs

I used to love collecting autographs of prospects, especially Yankees prospects. Since then I've gone away from that category, and moved into old timers and Hall Of Famers. I still kept my prospect autographs, so why not show them off while it's still spring training?

I bought this card of Eric Jagielo last year, at a card show about 30 minutes away from me. I remember being so amazed how big it was (about 50 tables), but then when I went to the National Sports Collectors Convention, my mind was completely blown, and it made that show seem so small.

Eric Jagielo has put up some pretty good seasons while in the Yankees organization, but nothing overly spectacular. 2014 Bowman Inception looks absolutely amazing, and I love the design!

Another $5 autograph of Jagielo that I bought at the National.

I also bought this card at the National Sports Collectors Convention, but had to pay a little bit more. This card is #ed /10, and is from Leaf Metal Draft. Even with the lack of logos, $7 (I think that's what I payed for it, maybe $10) isn't bad for a card #ed /10, and of a Yankees prospect!

Two All Stars And A Story

I haven't shown these cards on my blog now, and with opening day right around the corner, why not show 2 cards of 2 all stars?

Daniel Murphy had another good year last year, hitting .289 in 143 games. Over a year ago(November 2013), I went to a card shop in New York, Alex's MVP Sports Cards, or something like that, and it was quite small. It was cramped with comic books, and boxes and boxes of baseball cards. A lot of the cards were expensive, like this one, but I really wanted this card. In the end, it came down to this, or my first hobby box, a box of 2013 Topps Chrome. In the end, I ended up going with the 2013 Topps Chrome hobby box, and I was sort of kicking myself about spending $75 on cards, which was the most I had ever spent on cards. Prior to that, the most I had ever spent was $25 for 20 pounds of baseball cards. Not bad huh? Somehow, my mom bought the card for me, snuck it out without me seeing it, and gave it to me as a Christmas present! From then on, I was hooked on collecting baseball cards. I honestly don't know what It was... ?

About 5 months later, I bought 2 packs of museum collection from my local hobby shop. It was a new product, but they still overcharged, and I ended up spending quite a bit. The first pack came with this card as a redemption, and the second card was a Brian McCann quad patch. Being a new Yankee, I was really happy with the McCann, and the Sale was just as good! The only thing about the relics, is that the pinstripe is green. I remember seeing something about this, being from some special game, but Sale didn't pitch that game...

Metal Cardboard

Back in June, I bought a box of 2014 Topps Series 2 jumbo, and pulled a few very nice cards. One of them was a Jackie Robinson metal framed card, similar to the cards in Museum Collection. It's a super thick card, and it's also very heavy. It isn't numbered, but it's an amazing looking card! From the same box I also pulled a Stephen Strasburg Own The Name 1/1 letter patch, Henderson Alvarez autograph, and a Shelby Miller relic card. It was a pretty good box, but I traded the Strasburg and Miller...

Blogging While Watching Baseball

I love blogging while watching baseball. It's one of my favorite things to do, so why not do it now? I'm watching the Yankees play the Tigers, and I got reminded why I love baseball. With the bases loaded (I forget which inning) Aaron Judge was up, down by 5, and I just hoped he would hit a grand slam to put the Yankees within a run. He struck out, but still, it reminded me of how exciting baseball can be. Now, the Yankees are down by 2 with 2 runners on with Ramon Flores up with a 2-2 count with 2 outs, the winning run at the plate. Oh, my bad, he hit a walk off home run! Now that's why I love baseball. It's unpredictable! You could be down by 2 in the bottom of the 9th inning with a 2-2 count, and still win the game. Theres no timer! Whereas in every other major sport, you can't do that. How amazing is it to have a sport that has no timer? Now onto the reason why I created this post.

I pulled this card a little over a year ago from a box of 2013 Panini HOF, where you're guaranteed a Hall Of Fame autograph. I didn't get the best one, but Whitey Herzog definitely wasn't a bad manager! The card doesn't look very good, in fact it looks awful, but Whitey's signature makes up for the missing logos, and the black and white picture.

I made a trade a while back with someone on the sports card forum, and after some confusing, I ended up with this Al Kaline bat relic from 2014 Tier one, and some other Yankees cards. Another HOF relic added to my collection!

The final card is this Tony Gwynn relic from 2014 Immaculate. The card looks terrible, the picture is awful, and the huge lettering is dreadful. But in the end, it's still a Tony Gwynn relic #ed /99!

Christian Yelich Signs With The Marlins

In honor of Christian Yelich signing for 7 years and 49 million, I'll be showing a few cards from my packs of 2015 Topps Heritage.

The main card of this post, is this black refractor #ed /66 of Christian Yelich! I pulled this card a couple of weeks ago from 3 packs of 2015 Topps Heritage. It's always nice to pull a numbered card of a player that you collect! The next cards that I included in this post are some other cards that I pulled from the Heritage packs.

The hardest thrower in the MLB

The Giants closer

The best pitcher in the MLB

2013 NL MVP

An up and coming Cardinals star

Yankees new 3rd baseman

And the last card, one of those postseason stats/Regular season stats cards. I've always liked these cards, and I have quite a few in my collection. It's an awesome card!

Baseball Cards, Baseball, And Pizza

I originally wanted to blog a little more today, but had to help somebody with their Eagle Scout project, and then I watched the Yankees and Mets game. For some reason, I really wanted pizza, so I ordered some pizza, and now I'm blogging. I wasn't really sure what to blog about, so I chose one team to blog about - The Atlanta Braves!

The Braves didn't have the best season last year, but they have some great players. I'll start with one of the best, if not best, defensive players in the game.
Andrelton Simmons is an outstanding shortstop, and that's an understatement. Simmons won the Platinum glove in 2013, along with Manny Machado. I do believe, however, that Andrelton Simmons is a better defender than Machado, and Manny has made some pretty incredible plays. I was thinking about starting a mini side collection of Andrelton Simmons... I've decided...

Eric Young Jr isn't the best of players, but he plays the game the right way. He's not a flashy player that want's to let the world what he did, he's full of class, and if anything were to go wrong, he would be the one to fix it. By the way, the dust on the card is from the top loader.

The Braves signed Markakis during the offseason, which to me, was pointless. The Braves won't be making the World Series anytime soon, let alone the playoffs, so what was the point of signing him? As long as he's not with the Orioles or the AL East, it's fine!

Freddie Freeman has been with the Braves 5 years now, and has been one thing: Consistent. Every year he's been as good as the year before, if not better! I pulled this card the Christmas of 2013 from a box of triple threads, and at the time I really didn't know who Freddie Freeman was...

I bought this card at the National for $20, and it's a beautiful card. The pink parallel is probably my favorite colored parallel from the 2014 Topps Tribute autograph set.

Pete Rose Personal Collection

A while back, I decided to start a collection of Pete Rose. The all time hits leader doesn't only have the most hits, he has the most games played, most at bats, and the most plate appearances. So why isn't he in the Hall Of Fame? He should be. Just because he bet on baseball, doesn't mean that he shouldn't be in the Hall Of Fame. I think It's time for everybody to forgive the hit king, and allow him to enter Cooperstown!

The only non autographed card that I have in this post is a 1974 Kellogg's 3-D Super Stars card! It's graded a NM-MT 8 by PSA. I bought this at a monthly card show that's about 10 minutes away from me. It has only about 10 tables, but I get to know the people better which is always nice.

I remember going to Target to buy some repacks a few years back, and ended up getting a repack with a guaranteed autograph or relic.  I was sitting in the front seat. It's weird how you remember the small details. I opened the repack, and right on the top was the autograph - It was Pete Rose! I couldn't have been more excited, pulling a Pete Rose autograph from a $10 repack! This was about a year or 2 ago, before I really got into collecting.

I forget where I got this one from... Either way it's a Rose autograph!

I pulled this from a 2014 Leaf Best Of Unopened Baseball box. I must say, those boxes are a ton of fun to open! You get a guaranteed buyback Pete Rose autograph (yipee) plus an unopened buyback box of cards. I got a box of 2013 Topps Chrome, which was a ton of fun, and pulled a Dylan Bundy 1972 autograph #ed /24, which I later traded for a Pete Rose patch autograph, Tony Gwynn strata, and a Clayton Kershaw 2013 Five star autograph. Included in that trade, in my end, was also a Vin Scully autograph from 2012 Prime cuts. More boring information!

I pulled this last Christmas from a box of 2011 Pete Rose legacy. The autograph is on card and is #ed /30!

I pulled this card from a box of 2011 Pete Rose legacy late last summer. It's #ed /10, and is inscribed "Lou Gehrig Award" in red ink!

I traded for this card, as I mentioned earlier, and is #ed /10! It's inscribed "Hit King 4256" in red ink, along with a 2 color patch! This is probably my favorite card in my Rose collection!

The newest addition to my Rose collection, is this autograph from 2012 Pete Rose Legacy! I made a trade with Brian about a week ago, and he sent me this card! I'm trying to complete the autograph set (slowly but surely) so I'll always accept an autograph of Rose from 2012 Pete Rose Legacy!
